Memorial Bend House featured in Atomic Ranch

The house of Cathie and Rick Johnson is currently featured in the Winter 2005 issue of Atomic Ranch magazine. The article is a product of Atomic Ranch's visit to Houston in May of 2005 and truly showcases the effort they have put in restoring and preserving a great William Floyd design. If you haven't picked up a copy of the article, here are scans (large images) of the eight page spread:

This is a fantastic article and, once again, great publicity for Memorial Bend... something that we won't continue receiving if our houses are replaced with McMansions.

Freaking schweet man.
I can't believe I have lived in MB for almost three years, am your faithful servant as MBCA president - and I just now find your blog.

Awesome.
Thank you for promoting the neighborhood.

I've seen some of your comments about the "McMansions" coming into the neighborhood. Are there not deed restrictions in place concerning the footprint size, placement and height that would prevent these large homes? I've been curious about this...

Thanks!

The deed restrictions do place some requirements on what can/can't be built but they're not as strong as they could be. There does seem to be a popular movement afoot in the neighborhood to restrict these types of houses. A perfect example is the recent request to subdivide a lot for two McMansions. The neighborhood met and overwhelmingly turned down the request.
